Lengkuas is a small island located near Tanjung Binga, the Fishery Village of Belitung regency. It is one of the famous tourist destinations and people usually go there for recreation.

Lengkuas Island is only one hectare in size. There are granite boulders in various shapes that look like strange creatures, which can be reached by walking through the one meter shallow water. The granite boulders are so unique that you can hardly find in other places.

The most attractive thing to me is an old lighthouse that was built in Dutch colonial era in 1882. The lighthouse still functions well though it has already been 137 years since it was built.

The sea water is so clean and it is very suitable for snorkeling or scuba diving. Seashells can be found on the sand beach, which are very tasty and well liked by most people.

Geographically, Lengkuas Island is located at the north of Tanjung Kelayang beach. The outstanding panorama and clean environment attracts a lot of people from big cities, where they’re able to relax and keep away from the tumult and uproar of city life.

The distance from Tanjung Pandan town to Tanjung Kelayang beach is 27.8 kilometers and you can go there by car or motorbike. After arriving at Tanjung Kelayang beach, you may take the passenger boat to reach Lengkuas Island.

The journey fare on the passenger boat range between Rp. 650.000 – Rp. 800.000 or more, it depends on how many passengers on the boat. It needs half an hour to sail to Lengkuas Island from Tanjung Kelayang beach.

Visitors can take photos with the background of Lengkuas Island. There are different types of fish that you can see while you’re snorkeling or diving. You see fish if you go to the aquarium, but you swim with the fish while you are swimming in the sea at Lengkuas Island.

Having finished snorkeling or diving, the tour guide is going to take you to Kelayang Island. It is an infertile island and there are no trees and grass. You can only see granite boulders that surround this lonely island.

After admiring the beauty of Kelayang Island, the tour guide will take you to another small island called Kepayang Island. It is a good place to see the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. A lot of tourists go there just to take photos of sunrise and sunset. They bring their hi-tech cameras and stay there to wait for the wonderful moments.

Kepayang Island is also called the Pig Island, but you’ll never find a pig on the island. It is said that the island was a pig farm hundreds of years ago. Some also say that there’s a pig god that exists on the unoccupied island and there has been a great number of people going there to perform money ritual.

No entrance ticket needed and you can spend the whole day on Pig Island for free. However, you should prepare your lunchbox because you won’t meet anybody selling food and drinks. If you have the hobby of fishing, you may catch some fish and cook them over a campfire.
